A large exspanse of hazel near our wines

The variety of hazelnut cultivated in Piedmont is the “Tonda Gentile Trilobata”, production of which is concentrated in the provinces of Cuneo, Asti and Alessandria, on the Langhe, Roero and Monferrato hills. I.G.P. certification offers users and consumers certainty in terms of product quality and authenticity.

The characteristics that make this variety so special include:

  • The roundness of the nut, which facilitates quick mechanical shelling without damaging the kernel;
  • Its’ thin shell, which offers a high shelled product yield of between 46 and 50%;
  • Its’ very aromatic and delicately flavoured kernel;
  • Its’ limited fat content, ensuring successful storage without rancidity;

These are the reasons why the Piedmont Hazelnut is acknowledged as the best in the world.
We have decided to use only the best exposed areas for our vineyards, so now we have approximately 14 hectares of hazelnut groves, and the area is destined to expand over the next few years. Our crop combination is perfect, because operations in the vineyards and in the hazelnut groves usually alternate. Only rarely have the hazelnut and Dolcetto harvests overlapped.
